What SOL to ETH actually does
This route exchanges native SOL on Solana for native ETH on Ethereum mainnet. It does not accept an SPL token in place of SOL and does not deliver ETH on Arbitrum or Base.
A common reason to use it is needing ETH for gas or applications on Ethereum while your funds sit on Solana. If you would rather land on a layer-2, pick ETH on Arbitrum or Base as the destination; network costs on the payout side are lower there.
