Who has to verify on ChangeNOW
ChangeNOW's terms make KYC mandatory before swapping for residents of a listed set of jurisdictions, naming the EU, the United States, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, the UAE, Australia and Canada. Everyone else swaps without an account, but every order passes an automated risk check, and an order can be put on hold until identity or source-of-funds documents are provided. Verification runs through Sumsub with a three-day link, and the terms say a user who declines receives a refund.
Its terms also exclude residents of the United Kingdom, India and Russia, and limit US residents to the account-based ChangeNOW Pro product.
Fees and mistakes: what each service charges
ChangeNOW builds its margin into the quoted rate and does not publish a percentage. Fixed-rate orders must be funded within four minutes. A deposit sent on the wrong network or in an unsupported coin costs a $50 processing fee plus network fees to recover, and refunds can take up to 20 business days.
TorrentSwap shows the total fees for your amount in the swap box, and they are already inside the amount you see. There is no separate recovery fee schedule, because TorrentSwap never holds a deposit: the protocol named on the route holds it while it settles and refunds to your refund address if it cannot fill the swap.
ChangeNOW vs TorrentSwap at a glance
The core difference is custody and pricing transparency: one company running the exchange, versus several open protocols competing on each quote.
- Account: ChangeNOW optional (required for fiat, and up front for KYC-tier countries); TorrentSwap never
- Pricing: ChangeNOW margin in the rate; TorrentSwap shows the total fees on every quote
- Who holds the deposit: ChangeNOW itself; on TorrentSwap, the named protocol only while it settles
- Assets: ChangeNOW 1,000+ including XMR and fiat; TorrentSwap 39 native assets, no XMR or fiat
- Wrong-network recovery: ChangeNOW $50 fee; TorrentSwap shows the exact network and validates both addresses before you send
When ChangeNOW is the better choice
If you need Monero, a long-tail token TorrentSwap does not list, or a card or bank purchase, ChangeNOW covers it and TorrentSwap does not. For native BTC, ETH, SOL, USDT, USDC and the other 39 supported assets, compare the amount you would receive for the same input on both before deciding.
- No account at any point: no email, no ID upload, no sign-up flow to fall back on
- Every quote names the protocol that executes it (NEAR Intents, Chainflip or Flashnet), ranked by what you receive
- All fees already included in the amount shown, with the total displayed before you confirm
- 39 assets on 17 networks, native coins only (no wrapped IOUs); no Monero and no fiat
- If a protocol cannot meet your minimum, the deposit is refunded to the refund address you entered
