Availability and freezes
SideShift's terms say the service is not intended for citizens or residents of the United States, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Saint Kitts and Nevis, or Syria, and it may restrict others. There is no routine identity check, but an automated risk system screens every shift, and the terms allow a transaction to be frozen for as long as a risk investigation takes, without a stated time limit.
On TorrentSwap, the protocols that execute routes run their own sanctions screening and can refund a flagged deposit; TorrentSwap itself holds nothing it could freeze.
How the price is set
SideShift includes its fee in the quoted rate and does not publish a flat percentage for end users; partner apps add a commission on top (0.5% by default). Fixed-rate shifts lock for 15 minutes; variable shifts take the rate when the deposit arrives and stay open up to seven days.
TorrentSwap shows the total fees in the swap box and asks several protocols for a quote at once, so you see who fills the swap and the exact amount each one pays.
Where SideShift is stronger
SideShift lists far more coins and recovers most deposits sent on the wrong network for free, usually within three days, where it controls the address. If your asset is not among TorrentSwap's 39, SideShift is a reasonable option outside its restricted countries.
TorrentSwap in one list
What you get instead when you swap on TorrentSwap:
- No account at any point: no email, no ID upload, no sign-up flow to fall back on
- Every quote names the protocol that executes it (NEAR Intents, Chainflip or Flashnet), ranked by what you receive
- All fees already included in the amount shown, with the total displayed before you confirm
- 39 assets on 17 networks, native coins only (no wrapped IOUs); no Monero and no fiat
- If a protocol cannot meet your minimum, the deposit is refunded to the refund address you entered
