The same ticker can represent different network assets
USDC on Ethereum, USDC on Solana, and USDC on Arbitrum are recorded by different networks. USDT also exists across multiple networks. A balance on one chain does not automatically exist on another.
Wallets and exchanges often show the ticker prominently while placing the network in smaller text. Always treat the network label and token contract as part of the asset identity.
What to verify before choosing
Confirm which network currently holds your source asset and which network the destination wallet or service accepts. Then select that exact asset-network combination in the swap interface.
Do not choose a network only because its general transaction cost is lower. The route must exist, the destination must support it, and you need the appropriate native asset if a later wallet transaction requires network gas.
- Source asset ticker and network.
- Destination asset ticker and network.
- Destination wallet or custodian support.
- Current route availability and address validation.
Native issuance, bridges, and token contracts
Stablecoins may be issued natively on a network or represented through another transfer or bridge mechanism. These versions can have different contracts and operational assumptions even when their displayed value is intended to track the same currency.
Use issuer documentation for contract and network information. Never copy a token contract from an advertisement, unsolicited message, or unverified search result.
