What to know before bridging to Bitcoin
Bitcoin has no smart contracts to host a classic lock-and-mint bridge, so there are two ways to move value off it. You can wrap BTC into a token such as WBTC or cbBTC, which depends on a custodian holding the real coins, or you can swap native BTC through a protocol that holds liquidity on both sides. TorrentSwap routes do the second: you send real BTC and receive the native asset on the other network.
Because the time is dominated by Bitcoin block confirmations, the protocol you pick matters more on this network than on any other. The quote list shows each protocol's own estimate next to the amount you receive.
Paying out to Bitcoin is quick for the protocol, but the payout transaction still needs a block before most wallets show it as confirmed.
Some Bitcoin bridges, such as THORChain, need a memo (OP_RETURN data) in the deposit, which most exchange withdrawals cannot add. TorrentSwap only shows routes that take a plain transfer, so you can withdraw the exact amount from an exchange straight to the one-time deposit address.
